Description
Somebody here at DA said they wouldn’t mind a photo of my Power Mac G5, so while there was a storm today, I wheeled it out of its spot and did some vacuum cleaning and dusting. It was then that I thought it would be a good time to get a few piccies.
I bought this computer 2nd hand, around the middle of last year (2016), from a place called Apple Bits in Victoria. Thank goodness the delivery cost was free! It weighs about 21 kg. That’s why I have the very pro, Apple approved, () wooden base with wheels on it. It resides under the desk, and this makes it so much easier to move. Just lifting it today, I was like: “Phwoar!”
Anyway, it’s not my main computer; just one in my small collection. (I use Windows mostly anyhow. )
I use it for iMovie, iDVD and sometimes other things. (It’s a 2 GHz dual core model, [970MP] with 2 GB of RAM, a nVidia GeForce 6600 LE video card, the original ~160 GB hard drive + a brand new ~1 TB drive. [More like 931 GB really.] The DVD drive I replaced [for $10], and the one that it came with seemed to be a replacement too! But it failed on me. I’m running Mac OS X Tiger & Leopard on separate partitions. That’s all this model will run. It also has a BlueTooth doodad and AirPort as well, but I use neither.)
I love the case — not just how it looks, but how easy it is to open. Some of the stuff inside is pretty well thought out too. The aluminium shows up finger prints quite a bit, but it’s easy enough to wipe over. I usually have a plastic cover over the front and back to keep the dust out. The amount of fans this thing has makes me think it doesn’t like to get too hot. So I wanna keep the insides fairly clean too.
I also did this computer in 3D, which you can see here. Although the Apple logo is a bit small on it compared to the real thing.

G5 represent! I have the following model, the first Intel Mac Pro, the twin quad-core Xeon at 3GHz. Has roughly the same chassis as this. Is a beautiful machine (and powerful to boot).
